Since established in 1994, Serdar Özler Eye Clinic has been
dedicated to the protection and saving of the precious
gift of sight. The Clinic's broad programs for the patient
care with eye disorders, research in the vision sciences,
education and changing skills in the field of ophthalmology,
reaching out to the public, joined with its state-of-the
art facilities, have brought national respect to the Clinic.
Many professionals and patients have contributed to this
tradition of excellence and many more will carry it forward
as the Clinic continues its mission to advance ophthalmology
nationwide.

Clinic and Centers
Serdar Özler Eye Clinic combines innovative accomplishments
with clinical expertise in almost every eye disease and vision
disorder.
Serdar Özler Eye Clinic also provides patients safe, effective,
state-of-the art treatments to revitalize, and renew an individuals
appearance, eyesight and minimize the signs of aging with
the highest standard of care.
The Clinic's patient examination suites provide congenial
patient reception areas and include fully equipped and self-contained
patient examination units. The examination units, specifically
designed to promote the patient's comfort during eye care
visits, are furnished with electrically adjustable chairs.
Diagnostic and therapeutic equipment is mounted on an adjacent
stand and arranged around the patient. A complete and precise
ocular examination can thus be performed while the patient
remains comfortably in one location. A centrally automated
unit is available for visual acuity testing, automated perimetry,
electronic refraction, pneumotonometry, and other advanced
ophthalmic examination procedures.

Diabetic Eye Disease and Retinal Vascular Center
The Diabetic Eye Disease and Retinal Vascular Center provides
medical consultation and treatment services ranging from
basic vision screening to the management of severe eye
disease. The Center has contributed significantly to the
understanding, treatment and prevention of diabetic eye
disease. Current focus is on innovation in technologies
to expand treatment options, such as new lasers and strategies
for employing existing lasers, refinement of microsurgical
techniques specific to diabetic eye diseases and nontraditional
treatment approaches.
The Center's treatment philosophy is based upon the systemic
nature of diabetes. In providing the best eye care, ophthalmologists
take into consideration complications and requirements of
diabetes that lie outside the field of ophthalmology. Care
is coordinated by a diabetes patient coordinator who also
provides education and psychosocial support to reinforce
disease prevention, treatment applications and lifestyle
changes. Surgical interventions include laser and ophthalmic
surgery. Center physicians perform all surgeries for diabetics,
including those specific to the disease, as well as vitrectomy,
cataract surgery and retinal reattachment.
Macular Disease Center
The Macular Disease Center provides a spectrum of services
to patients with macular disease. The Center provides high-quality
patient care, utilizing standard and developing treatments.
It also offers associated rehabilitation services, such as
low-vision aids and counseling, in order to enhance quality
of life for patients. Lastly, it promotes collaborative basic
science research into the causes of macular disease.
Patients with dry macular disease are evaluated and followed
at the Clinic. Patients with wet macular disease receive
an immediate angiogram to identify lesions. Treatment options
for wet macular disease include standard laser surgery or
photodynamic therapy and participation in emerging therapies
and clinical studies that are matched to the patient's disease
status.
Fully equipped, specially designed operating rooms are
available for ophthalmic surgery of all types. The ophthalmic
surgery suite accommodates special instruments, such as operating
microscopes with attached video cameras to record procedures,
phacoemulsification units, comprehensive vitreoretinal surgery
equipment, and endoscopic viewing systems. The surgical area
has space and facilities for patient preparation, anesthesia
induction, surgery, and immediate postoperative recovery,
in addition to a variety of essential supporting activities.
Surgical Center provides immediate response to ophthalmic
emergencies 24 hours a day for consultative, medical and
surgical care involving both primary and secondary ocular
repairs. The Center offers complete evaluation and treatment
of the traumatically injured eye, including intraocular intervention
through vitreoretinal and/or orbital and ophthalmic plastic
surgery, anterior segment surgery and medical follow-up.
Patients are commonly referred to the Center for such ocular
traumas as ruptured globe, intraocular foreign bodies, acute
orbital hypertension, retinal detachment, chemical burns
of the cornea and conjunctiva and acute vitreous hemorrhage.
Primary surgical repairs are performed immediately for new
trauma. Secondary repairs are usually scheduled. In many
cases, treatment involves medical follow-up alone.
The Laser Refractive Center provides standard refractive procedures for the correction of vision, and offers emerging therapies as they become available. Center physicians have access to the latest laser technology and are versed in current refractive techniques, including custom LASIK, custom LASEK/PRK, conductive keratoplasty (CK), intracorneal ring implants (INTACS), astigmatic keratotomy (AK), natural lens replacement (NLR), phakic intraocular lens implantation and accomodative intraocular lens implantation. This enables them to treat a broad range of conditions and to customize treatment for each patient's individual needs.
Patients referred to the Center undergo a complete ocular examination and testing to analyze corneal shape and identify conditions that may interfere with surgical correction. Candidates for laser surgery are educated about the benefits, risks and alternatives to surgery.
